From the preface to the publication

Τhe second monograph by Yannis Psilakis, published April 2026, seeks to grasp and record, through the photographic lens, this eternal human urge: to leave behind signs. To reconstruct the global mosaic ― not through words, but through images. The face, the gaze, the landscape, daily and ritual life, the customs of a cultural heritage under threat ― all act as vessels of meaning: as living testimonies of a cultural and existential imprint narrating the story of human wandering. This photographic album is a journey into the Traces of Humans on this planet. Where earth, light, and faces compose an invisible map of existence.

In an era where speed, digital technology, and cultural homogenization threaten the experience of genuine encounters, this book comes to remind us of the value of the gaze. A gaze that is neither possessive nor touristic, but deeply human; a gaze that seeks to see the person as a subject ― a trace that, though fleeting, carries within it the entire weight of human history. A gaze that crosses time without speaking. It only remains silent ― and through that silence, narrates worlds. Photography here assumes a dual role: on one hand, it documents the diversity of human existence ― through the tribes, nations, and cultures of the planet; on the other, it invites the viewer to reflect on the common thread that runs through this otherness. Cultural difference is not presented as an exotic spectacle, but as another face of the familiar.

A reminder that human experience ― despite its diverse forms of expression ― is grounded in shared needs: creation, memory, coexistence, spirituality.
