The Republic of Cuba is an island state in the Caribbean, consisting of the island of the same name and more than a thousand small islands located around the island of Cuba. It is located in the northern Caribbean, between the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Atlantic Ocean.
The region was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492 and became independent in 1898. In 1959, the Cuban Revolution took place, in which Fidel Castro, the leader of the guerrillas, overthrew the pro-American dictatorship, while since 1962 the United States has maintained an economic and trade embargo against Cuba.
Cuba is one of the largest sugar producers in the world, with its main industrial products being fishing, nickel, and tobacco. The quality of Cuban cigars does not need special recommendations. The aged, colorful colonial buildings, the American limousines of the 1940s and 1950s on the streets, and the echoes of the son music in the alleyways, create a unique atmosphere.
